Lesson 2
As soon as we left the ground I knew I myself had to fly! -Amelia Earhart
Broomstick Models
The Cleansweep Models
The Cleansweep model was introduced to the wizarding world in 1926. It's first model, the Cleansweep One, had within the first year of it's release date proved to be the best racing broom on the market. Just eight years later (1934), the Cleansweep Two was introduced to the market and was a much more improved version of the Cleansweep One. After another three years (1937) of research and development the Cleansweep Three was sent out for witches and wizards to ride. The Cleansweep Five however is possibly one of the more famous brooms the Cleansweep company created because of a famous rider. Or should I say riders? The Weasley Twins could be seen riding these brooms while playing beater for the Gryffindor Quidditch team while they were at Hogwarts. The Cleansweep Six on the other hand is famous from the fact that the Quibbler published an article about a man that claimed he rode the broomstick all the way to the moon and back. Now this story can't be confirmed, and no facts have confirmed that broomsticks can fly to the moon and back. The Cleansweep Seven came about when the ever so famous Harry Potter was at Hogwarts and it was flown a lot by the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team. The Cleansweep Eleven is the latest edition of the Cleansweep broom line being released in 1995. We know the most about this broom because Ron Weasley received one as a gift when he became a Prefect. This broom is made of Spanish Oak and can hit 70 miles per hour in a mere 10 seconds. But enough about the Cleansweeps, let's move on.
The Comet Broom Series
The next broomstick model is called the Comet series. The Comet company was formed in 1929 and has produced 4 brooms that we know of. The first broom sent to market from this company was called The Comet 140. Probably the most important detail about this broom is that it included the Horton-Keitch Braking Charm, one of the very first brooms to do so. Fun fact about how the Comet Broom Company named their very first broomstick: The number 140 came from the number of test models the company produced before they got a result they liked.
The next broomstick that came from the comet series was the Comet 180. It was released in the year 1938 just nine years after the company's racing broom start. Then came a broomstick of the not so rich and famous. The Comet 260 was released before 1991 which explains why so many Hogwarts students flew them in their quidditch matches, and even Order of the Phoenix members used them as transportation. Famous riders include Draco Malfoy, Cho Chang, and Nymphadora Tonks.
The latest broom in the Comet Series is the Comet 290. This new broomstick can accelerate from zero to sixty with a nice tailwind behind the rider. This broomstick is so new in fact that most riders don't know all the features which explains the lack of information I can provide you with.

Firebolts
The next broom model we'll discuss is possibly the most famous model around. It was most notiably riden by none other than Harry Potter himself. In fact Harry got his firebolt as a gift which he used very well to help Gryffindor win the quidditch cup! But what is so different about this broomstick model that seperates itself from the rest?
Well let's start out with when it was released. It was first put out into the market in the year 1993. The broom was quite expensive when it first debuted. The price was never released to the public because of it's tendency to cause massive heart attacks. Ok that's not actually true, it's fun to think about though! Just one year later the Irish International Squad flew Firebolts in their match against the Bulgarian quidditch team for the 1994 Quidditch World Cup.
Some features of this record breaking broomstick include an ash broom handle, birch tail twigs, an unbreakable breaking charm, and it has the impressive capability to accelerate up to 150 miles per hour in just 10 seconds. No other broomstick has been recorded to accomplish such a feat except for the Firebolt. The broomstick is said to even hover at a height that makes it easy for the rider to mount. So you'll never have to worry about hurting your legs trying to mount you broomstick ever again!
This broomstick is one of a kind and is certainly will be hard to beat.

The Nimbus Series
Nimbus 2000
The Nimbus Company was on top of the broomstick racing scene for many years until the Firebolt came out. The first broom the Nimbus company produced was called the Nimbus 1000. The released date for this broomstick isn't know exactly, but a few known facts about the broom include the fact that it was one of the first broomsticks that could reach 100 miles per hour and that it could turn 360 degrees on a fixed point! Those features were quite the accomplishment for a company that was just starting out.
In about 20 year time period the Nimbus company released a multitude of brooms including the Nimbus 1001, 1500, and 1700. All of these versions were no longer used by the year 1990.
When Harry Potter was in his first year at Hogwarts the Nimbus 2000 was the top racing broom on the market. The young wizard was lucky enough to receive a version of the broomstick from his head of house that same year. The broomstick was later outdone by a version put out by the same company entitled the Nimbus 2001. Draco Malfoy is most notibly known for making the Slytherin Quidditch team because his father bought the entire team one. And that wraps up our lesson about well known broomsticks!
